Guest Report for MLK Day

It seems like a good idea to have references for who will be on the Colbert Report. I will also give a breakdown on what to expect and all that jazz (obviously this is subject to change).

Ta-Nehisi Coates, Senior Editor, “The Atlantic”
I’m betting this is going to be about gun-control and the NRA. Remember that “The Atlantic” has editors write articles and a couple of his recent pieces talk about guns.

I’m also betting that race will come up, Coates writes about it and it is MLK Day.

He probably won’t talk about Lena Dunham’s nudity… like in this article.

He says (for those who don’t want to click the link, or who came back here after reading it… Thanks!) “Lena Dunham ain’t really performing for you. She’s saying people like me–which is most of you–like to fuck. And in a real narrative of real life, the people who do most of the fucking don’t actually look like Victoria Secret models. Your expectations for what fucking should look like are irrelevant. Here is how it looks like to the narrator. I kind of love that. In this (perhaps limited) sense, I can understand the “For Us, By Us” acclaim. The show’s disregard for male notions of sex is pretty profound. And it achieves this while still giving us a fairly interesting cast of male characters.”

This seems a little silly to me. If you aren’t performing for an audience than why publish? This is a commercial venture to make money… let’s not pretend it’s profound. There is nothing wrong with capitalist ventures and nothing wrong with nudity but why are we making it a big issue?

HUGE DISCLAIMER: I have never watched Girls, it might be very profound and a complete artistic movement but I very much doubt that. I think people tend to read a lot more into people’s choices than is needed.

He seems opinionated and probably has a pretty good idea who Colbert is and what the show is about. I’m hoping that he sticks with his guns (or no guns) and doesn’t play into Colbert’s schtick to much.
